Taiwan Takes on Global Competition in National Genome Sequencing! Experts Urge Government to Lead in Large-Scale Genome Sequencing Program.

In 1992, the Human Genome Project was launched, and after 30 years, we have now entered the era of national genome sequencing.

On April 12, Academician Chang-Hung Chou from the Institute of Plant and Microbial Biology at Academia Sinica served as the convener, inviting experts such as Professor Jen-Leih Wu from the Institute of Cellular and Organismic Biology at Academia Sinica, Professor Shih-Feng Tsai from the Institute of Molecular and Genomic Medicine at the National Health Research Institutes, Professor Chung-Hsi Lee from the graduate Institute of Health and Biotechnology Law at Taipei Medical University, and Honorary Chairman Johnsee Lee from the Precision Medicine Industry Association of Taiwan, for a round table discussion.

The discussion focused on the current status of the genome sequencing industry in Taiwan, as well as the opportunities and challenges of localization, security issues of gene order, and regulatory frameworks.

In addition, Legislator Tai-Hua Lin and representatives from multiple government departments participated in the discussion, to provide a communication platform among the industry, academia, and official departments.
