Dr. Hung-Ching Lin, Head of Otolaryngology at MacKay Memorial Hospital, has been a pioneer in free hearing screenings for newborns in Taiwan. His visionary leadership also established the first Department of Audiology and Speech language pathology at MacKay Medical College in northern Taiwan.
As the world embraces biological therapies for hearing loss, Dr. Lin has joined forces with Dr. Yi-Chao Hsu, the current department chair, to adapt and advance the program to meet international standards. In 2023, they co-founded the Taiwan Society for Inner Ear Therapeutics, leading Taiwan’s auditory care into a new era of innovation.
Their research doesn’t stop there! Together with zebrafish disease model expert, Dr. Cheng-Yung Lin, they’ve built a multidisciplinary team to develop advanced therapies for hearing loss. By sequencing mitochondrial genomes, they’ve identified gene mutations that could pave the way for groundbreaking treatments for mitochondrial disorders. Their findings are set to be published next year, sparking excitement for the future of hearing restoration!
