Shining a Light on Taiwan's Remote Communities
Discover how one doctor is transforming rural healthcare
Along Taiwan's South-Link Highway, access to medical care is a daily challenge for residents of Taitung's four southernmost townships. Yet one man is changing that narrative: Dr. Chao-pin Hsu, Djaikung Luveljeng, lovingly known as the "SuperDoctor."
Born in the Paiwan village of Tjuabal in Taitung, Dr. Hsu returned home after years at ChiMei Hospital to fulfill his promise of bringing healthcare to underserved areas. In 2019, fueled by the support of like-minded individuals, he founded the South-Link Medical Foundation, aiming to address the dire lack of medical resources in this 100-kilometer stretch without a hospital.
Through mobile medical services and the dream of establishing the South-Link Medical Foundation Clinic, Dr. Hsu's mission has grown from a solo effort into a movement, embodying hope and resilience for Taiwan's remote communities.
