Farewell to a visionary: Dr. Tian-Lu Cheng (1967–2024)


On 4th December, the biotech and academic worlds mourned the sudden passing of Dr. Tian-Lu Cheng, Vice President of Kaohsiung Medical University (K.M.U) and CEO of the K.M.U Research Center for Drug Development and Value Creation (DVCR). Known as the Tech Transfer Titan of Southern Taiwan, Dr. Cheng dedicated over 30 years to antibody research, securing over 500 tech transfers and generating royalties exceeding USD 6 million.

Dr. Cheng’s legacy extends beyond numbers—his mentorship inspired startups like CytoArm and PrecisemAb Biotech, making waves in Taiwan's biomedical ecosystem. As a pioneer, educator, and innovator, he believed in the power of science to transform lives. Outside the lab, his vibrant personality shone through hobbies like comics, sports, fishing, mahjong, chess, and wine tasting.

His groundbreaking achievements and warm spirit will continue to inspire future generations.
